Entertainment Made By North Korea

Entertainment Made By North Korea [5h30m] is an overview of... entertainment made by North Korea. It begins well before the founding of the country to give the cultural background, and then gets into post-Korean War entertainment. It's an interesting history lesson combined with a fascinating glimpse into a world not seen much outside it's own borders. [more inside]

Harmontown Extended Cut

Look, Dan Harmon is a complicated person. Between Community and Rick And Morty he's done a lot. He's also incredibly self-destructive and willing to be open about that. His podcast was popular enough that he went out on a tour, and Harmontown [2014] is the film that documents that tour. This extended version runs 2h40m.

DJ Set recorded on February, 2024 on the island of Florianópolis

"I was at a party in space with creatures of all kinds and shapes you can imagine, and this was the music playing, the vibe was unbelievable. Influenced by the 1970s space disco, with its synthesizers, funky grooves, and a certain psychedelia, the space DJs know what they're doing, it's time to listen to the voice that comes from beyond, or rather, from the infinite and beyond." Erma Bombeck, stand-up comedian

I don't know if the name Erma Bombeck means anything these days. For decades she epitomized a middle America observational kind of humor that was present in a lot of magazines about suburban life. While most of her material was written, she did put out one comedy album: The Family That Plays Together (Gets On Each Other's Nerves) [YT playlist, 1977]. I don't know if we have any equivalent voice in America today and maybe not all the humor works today, but this is a historical document that I got on vinyl from the Columbia House Record Club, and I'm happy to share it here today.

Daniels: How We Pulled Off Everything Everywhere All at Once | SXSW 2024

"We should tell you that we've run out of new things to say about Everything Everywhere All At Once, so although we’ll try our best to stay on topic, we'll most likely go on a bunch of tangents about the state of the world, the impending climate crisis, the collapse of consensus truth, the rise of AI, the importance and impossibility of self care, and our collective responsibility as storytellers to confront the issues of our time, because that's probably going to be what's on our mind, but we can't make any promises, but at times we don’t feel qualified to talk about any of that stuff, anyway we hope you enjoy our SXSW keynote!" I mean, if you're going to go to the Maldives, do it in style!

THE RITZ-CARLTON MALDIVES | Phenomenal private island resort (full tour) [1h12m] is a wordless tour of the resort. You won't get any perky central casting aspiring host here; it's images and music and an extremely engineered hotel resort that is basically at one with the water. Getting a bit LOST in 2024

YouTuber Billiam continues his examination of television series LOST (previously, previouslier) with his new video LOST: A DEEP DIVE INTO THE UNIVERSE [6h40m]. This fourth and not final installment examines season 5, the philosophical roots of the show, ancillary material such as novels, videogames, and ARGs, and tries to untangle the time travel maze of the plot. This is a deeper dive than you're expecting, even if you've seen the previous installments, and he's finding treasures in the depths. He swears the next episode will be the last.

180 Songs That Turn 40 Years Old in 2024 [18m22s] is a cavalcade of song hooks coupled with titles. Great for making Gen X feel super old, or maybe as a reference piece for youngs who would recognize a melody but not know the title. It's a lot. I'm sorry.

I'm really not sure you can actually script this

In so funny and cute🤣!The kitten took the rooster on an outdoor trip. The happiest rooster in the world [8m11s], a cat takes a rooster on a walk down to a lakeside. I don't think you can engineer this happening. It's a cat. Once they get there, the cat begins tasting the rooster but does not horribly eat them. They seem to be friends. It's a happy video.

"how did they let Greta Gerwig make this movie"

Deconstruction is a term that has a very academic meaning but in faith circles deconstruction has a different meaning. And while this video covers a really wide range of topics that are brought up by the movie, at its center Barbie is a Deconstructionist Text [1h30m] holds forth that the destruction of previously-held personal belief systems is intrinsic to the Barbie experience. Because every good marble track needs a Volcano World

An artifact from a very different era of the internet, Dave Gorman's Googlewhack Adventure is a 2004 one man show about searching two words on Google and being thrilled if only one result is returned: that's a Googlewhack. Exactly how this concept can lead to 2 hours of on-stage storytelling featuring slides and a bit of unhinged ranting in parts is an exercise I will leave up to the avid viewer. [more inside]

Cutting edge technology that are used to create views of the necropolis and many other technologies including a lot of human effort, and suddenly they're rebuilding a wall destroyed millennia ago and reading the text off of it.
