Please do not contact me about this. I just want to be that one guy

Do you remember my favorite Flash game?
This is an old one, but possibly Geartaker by Tony Pa?

(Also, QWOP is awesome)

When a comment leaves the site and enters your BRAIN!
I find that the the phrase "Jesus Christ died because he was weak and stupid! Hail Satan!" pops hilariously into my head at the oddest moments. Thanks Metafilter!

whir: hate to burst your bubble, but that comment is a quote from the Onion.

Well, I like the Onion too, but it was the specific juxtaposition with "say what you will" that always makes me think of it. It's one of those phrases that I'm always saving up to drop into a conversation if somebody says "say what you will" but the only times I actually remember it are at a big meeting at my office.

SF is better than NYC. There. I said it.
I think I'll be able to make the 19th. Latin-American club? Doc's Clock? They both get crowded on weekend nights though (along with every other bar in the hood). Oh, and Rosamunde's supposedly took possession on December 1st and are planning on being open by January 1st - probably a bit late for this meetup, but maybe the next...

San Fran Post T-Day Meetup
I can't do Friday (I am seeing The Books at Noe Valley Ministry, as the rest of you should be doing) but I'd be in for a December meet. As a word of warning, the 500 Club is on the smaller side and can get pretty packed.

The MeFi Tahoe Snowjob, 2/1/09
Color me intrigued, but I don't know what my February looks like yet. If I do go I'd be either looking for a ride with someone or looking for mefites with whom to split the cost of a rental car.

I bought House of Leaves after the OP told me about it at a meetup. Thanks Ambrosia Voyeur, I enjoyed it! Also I got some Amorphia apparel shirts after reading this.

San Francisco meet up, by popular demand
I'm in, and I'd be up for the Academy as well. I made a stab at going on opening day, but once I saw the crazy line snaking out along JFK Drive I elected not to. But I've heard that it's really awesome.

About the Sunday thing, I need to be in the Mission at 1:00, so I'll probably show up to the Academy early and then meet up with y'all outside at 11:00 and take off a bit early. I've been thinking about getting a membership so I may be able to jump one other person in (not sure yet, but at $100/year vs. $25/ticket it seems like a pretty good deal).

Yeah, that's pretty much my beef with it, although now that I've started to pay more attention to the way it's actually used on the site I guess I don't dislike it as much as I thought. What I don't like is something that basically repeats an earlier statement and says "I agree," full stop. If somebody says "I agree because of XYZ" or otherwise goes on to elaborate on the quoted bit, that doesn't seem so bad. But still, it's usually quite obvious that one is quoting… [more]

I believe that device comes in the form of a pill, but nobody else knows that you're back in San Francisco. Anyhow, I am surely up for a meetup, although I also have some vacation time to use during that week and so may not be around.

Muxtape
Has anything ever been added to the social apps based on that wiki page? It seems more like a graveyard for ponies, especially because there's no way to indicate how popular any of those social applications actually are are amongst mefites. I'd almost rather have a MeTa thread about each app, which would be really irritating but would at least enable more discussion than "this service exists and at least one user liked it enough to add it to the wiki."

"Wow, look at the Boobies!"
Hi everybody, editing the wiki is very easy. You just hit the "edit" tab near the top (you may need to create an account first). I've often wished that the boyzone page there was a little more substantial, and I would encourage other people to enhance it - I think keeping it free from opinion and full of links to actual MeFi / MeTa discussions is probably the most useful use for it. Wiki pages are lousy as a means of discussing things, but I think a summary / history of previous… [more]

Bier in Sint Fransiscus
I would be up for any or all three, though a recent irrational bout of fitness has sadly turned me into an early bird, so there may not be enough time for all three on a weeknight. I work right at the foot of Telegraph Hill, so that option appeals to my laziness (but then all the stairs kind of cancel it out).

Uh, ok, bar-wise how about something in the Polk Street neck of the woods (close to the Red Devil Lounge and smartyboots's show)? It's not really my neighborhood of expertise; I go to the Hemlock a good bit for shows but I'm not sure it's a good place for a meetup, though it might be better earlier in the evening. Anyone else have ideas? There's that one bar across the street from the Hemlock, Lush or something, would that be good?

Backstabbing is not conducive to intellectual discourse
I think it's generally accepted etiquette here that calling out someone in a thread they didn't actually poke their heads into is dirty pool and Mutant was in the wrong for doing it. However, so is referencing a user's non-MeFi identity to score points against them (besides which Ruby on Rails disputes are this decade's emacs/vi disputes and have a similar signal / noise ratio). I suggest a walk outside in the cool night air as the best solution to this problem.

Also,… [more]

For the record, I've spared you all from posting links to about 12 local blogs which cover mass transit in the San Francisco Bay Area, on thinking that while they may be pretty interesting blogs for locals, their appeal doesn't likely carry far beyond the Bay Area (you're welcome). I did post a bunch of photoblogs from the area because hey, cool photos.

I actually do enjoy a bit of local flavor in my MeFi, though, as long as it doesn't assume Brooklyn (or SF, or… [more]

Ant Man in San Fran
I'm game, though the date is so far off that it's kinda hard to commit. You might want to either arbitrarily pick a date so you can sidebar this post, or else wait and repost this sometime in late July or early August so folks can see it nearer to the event. The SF meetups do seem to happen nearly monthly and are always fun.

Oh, and the SF Outside Lands festival begins on Friday the 22nd, so I'd recommend against that date (some MeFites will probably be there, and… [more]

Preformatted text formatting
I'd love to see this fixed too. I also wouldn't mind getting some CSS love for

blockquote

elements, so that their margin/padding is reduced and I can sort of type them in regularly in the big old textarea. As it is there's lots of extraneous space before and after the text enclosed by blockquote tags.

(On preview: you can kind of avoid the double-spacing issue, I think, if you use
a code… [more]

And about the legacy blockquote issue, the solution that springs to mind immediately is to have the renderer produce something like <blockquote class="pancakes"> and then change the CSS for that class only.

Yeah, I do a lot of CF development in my day job and have found that the built-ins are lacking (in particular HTMLEditFormat(), which probably the most applicable thing here, is full of omissions and fail - one is better off using a regular expression, or even just using Replace() a bunch of times).

I thought somebody posted a very simple escaping solution the last time this came up that would have solved a lot of problems, which if I recall correctly had to do with… [more]

I just wanted to drop in and, apropos of nothing, declare that this SF Bike Coalition slogan bugs the hell out of me. One fewer car! FEWER! Damn you, bike advocates!

On the other hand, I think every FPP post I've ever made has at least one typo or grammar mistake in it somewhere. I used to always correct myself before I realized that that just ends up being distracting noise.
