We're approaching 18 hours in, that's 54 to go, and we're getting started on our first MST episode, SANTA CLAUS!

Day one has about 20 minutes left, so, 48 hours to go. We're still doing riffing at the moment.

Tomorrow our idea is to start with the riffs a bit earlier than today, we got started with them at around 6 PM this time, that was probably a bit too late.

MST3K: Turkey Day 2021
All the Russo-Finnish MST episodes are great, and the movies would be worth watching even without the efforts of automated mocking machines.

And we're off! First episode is The Brain That Wouldn't Die, with Jan In The Pan.

I will try, I am running on low sleep though and don't know if I'll make it through it all myself

They just announced Munchie, another of the genre of Gremlins knockoffs.

Movie #5 is Doctor Mordred, an obvious knockoff of Doctor Strange.

Then, Gamera vs Jiger, which we knew about before.

As for tonight's episodes, Gunslinger wrapped up a little while ago, now we're in Avalanche, a Season 11 episode.

The next announced Season 13 episode is The Batwoman.

Episode 9 of Season 13 is The Million Eyes of Sumaru, another Sax Rohmer movie, and a reprise from the KTMA days!

Episode 10 is "H.G. Welles' The Shape Of Things To Come," starring Jack Palance!

The next episode up is The Giant Spider Invasion (of savings at Menard's!)

Episode 11 is The Mask in 3D (not the Jim Carrey one, an older, black-and-white movie).

Episode 12 is "The Bubble," which may be a candidate for this season's Manos.

And the last episode (if I count correctly) of Season 13 is The Christmas Dragon, with Jonah, Emily and Joel hosting!

The marathon should be on a variety of other MST3K official streams too, including Pluto TV.

And it's done! It seems that Season 13 premieres on March 4, 2022. Good night everyone, wherever you are.

That's not only a perfectly acceptable way to watch, it's really unavoidable. I mean, this year's Turkey Day went for sixteen hours. And on a major US holiday where family is usually expected to gather and eat.

Let's hope everything works out for Christmas this year.

MST Club Halloween Show 2021
The list is of MST3K episodes. We are considering other kinds of things. but since we are MST Club and know we can provide almost anything MST related that is what the poll is focusing on. We are considering a quasi-theme of spoopiness for the evening, but we're trying to keep things open.

Of course you know we all love Young Frankenstein at MST Club. The only problem is time: at over an hour thirty per MST episode, we're going to have to choose carefully to fit stuff in the time. This is why the Christmas thingy goes three days.

We're getting set up now!

The episodes that came in at the top were
1. Werewolf
2. Zombie Nightmare
3. The Final Sacrifice
4 (tie): Manos: The Hands of Fate and Beast of Yucca Flats

We watched Final Sacrifice first while waiting for people to come in, we've moved on to Werewolf now. Don't know if we'll get to one of the tied items, we have some other things to watch too, but we'll see.

Thanks for coming by everyone! We watched:
- The Final Sacrifice
- Werewolf
- Zombie Nightmare
- Manos: The Hands of Fate
Also, the two Far Side specials, the Grinch special, and the "Koopastein" episode of the Super Mario Bros. cartoon.

We plan on doing something similar for Thanksgiving, as we usually do for Turkey Day, piping the YouTube stream into our video room so we can communicate with each… [more]

I miss our CD swaps. Where to buy 1-2 GIG bulk micro SD card
Important to stress that buying memory storage devices from random Shenzhen vendors like this is practically guaranteed to get you knock-off, counterfeit, falsely labeled, or recycled ewaste. But for low capacity and non-important data, it might not matter.

It's not just that. With flash memory, there is always the possibility that the controller has mapped sectors over each other, so copying near the limits of capacity will corrupt data. This is a… [more]

[MeFi Site Update] October 20th
Here is a thing: I miss the frequent sidebar updates that had been going on. August there were a ton of them, then like a light switch, September and October only had the podcasts. I liked seeing what threads were being regarded as popular/interesting without having to check every one, so, here's a vote for making more use of the sidebar.

[MeFi Site Update] September 27th
One problem I have with this thread is that there is a lot of hand-waving, "the problem is all around us, as we all know" kinds of non-specific speech, and I've heard it elsewhere, including from ex-MeFites I still have contact with, but I don't actually know it? I, at least, don't dip into every thread, I don't think many people who aren't mods actually do, so I get the impression that not every one who is describing problems is on the same page as to what the problems are? (I don't… [more]

A user who pledged "I can give X hours a week to learn Coldfusion" is unlikely to provide help that doesn't make things worse, and then, to imperiously demand that cortex must accept this dubious aid? I find that frightening. MetaFilter has always prided itself on paying its workers for their time and energy, anyway.

Anyway, I think the solution to losing users ultimately is to make more posts, and that is something I will try to do.

What is broken about the flag button? This is what I meant when I said everyone has their own idea of what the problems is, I had no indication that people considered the flag button to be broken. Are they not getting flags? Is it just considered to be poor UI in 2021? Is it impossible to unflag things that are flagged accidentally? Am I just naive about the incredible brokeness of something about that little exclamation-point link?

ANY codebase is fragile if something… [more]

Now you see, I have never heard that before in my life. There are large areas of the site that I don't generally go to. Not to diminish the need for this feature, but I had no idea.

On what Joe in Australia said: yes. I was a member back then and the site, while never really what I'd call right-wing, was much more of a boyzone back then.

One thing I think about is, one can enjoy Metafilter without being a member and commenting. Some people read MeFi without ever wanting to pony up for it. If we keep providing good and interesting links, we could help the site to survive even if fewer people are commenting.

It's so nice to see two mostly-allied sides going after each other with the standard accusations, like they have since the days of Usenet. "You're a bully!" "You people always say POC are mean!" I'm just going to sit back on my lounge chair, with my sunglasses and lemonade, and bitterly weep that we've been doing this since Internet Forever.

I think the mods are really trying, but are pushed from all directions, and have limited… [more]

Metatalktail Hour: Least Plausible You
Are we still doing these?

I met TV's Frank Conniff in the darkened Peachtree Mall after 11 PM at DragonCon one year. He was just sitting where while we were running to catch MARTA. He was gracious. I was on the phone with a friend back home who was also a MSTie, and I put Frank on the phone with him. It was probably a weird thing for me to do, but, there you go.

Here is another story that I swear actually happened.

I had… [more]

Call Me By My Name: Mefi Newsletter 2, the Denominated
I realized I hadn't seen this issue, did a search for my Gmail box, and found out I received it ten days ago. Sometimes (and inconsistently) newsletters get filtered into categories like "Updates" and "Promotions," and they never even see my Inbox. Gmail's usability has gone way downhill in the years since I got my invite.
