I will see how many stamps I can lick in an hour, then beat that record!

How can I rejigger my brain to recognize engaging, rewarding tasks as "fun" instead of "work"?

Is re-siding an ugly house before selling it a good investment?

We're thinking of selling our house within the next 18-24 months, and the siding on it now is ugly-ass T1-11 that I put on myself about a decade ago when I was young and full of hubris. We're getting quotes in the $12-15K range to redo the whole two-story house in mid-quality vinyl. Is this an investment that will pay for itself in terms of resale value?

Baked goods that are also refreshing on a hot day?

We're looking for inexpensive, "refreshing" baked goods that we can add to cupcakes at a farmers'-market vegan baking booth for the dog days of summer. Ideas?

Is "sawbuck" generally recognized as $10 in North America? Elsewhere?

I've been thinking of starting a small, single-serving Web site that offers a very specific service for $10. I was thinking about calling it “Sawbuck [Service]”. How much confidence should I have that the word "sawbuck" will be understood by most casual readers as meaning $10?

Their whole lives are a delicate cycle.

Musicians Kimya Dawson and Aesop Rock have been working for a while on a project they call The Uncluded. Their album is called Hokey Fright. It comes out on May 7. You can listen to the whole thing streaming right now here. The video for "Delicate Cycle" is here. The video features Lil Bub, who is an Internet-famous cat that Robert DeNiro likes. The Uncluded can also help you catch a frog.

Foot healed. Heel hurts. Help heel heal?

I broke a metatarsal in my foot last September, and (without a follow-up X-ray, which I really should do at some point), it seems better. My heel, however, hurts like the dickens. What's up, foot?

Simple solutions for a private micro-mix sharing site?

As my friends and colleagues continue to move and diversify, I'd like to make a small, private site where we can share three- to five-song "mix tapes" of what we really love these days; ideally super easy from an interface perspective to create these mix tapes. What's my shortest path to goal?

Medical/travel insurance SNAFU outside my country. Am I liable?

I was in an minor accident in the U.S. last September (broke my foot). At the time, my workplace travel insurance seemed to have covered everything just fine -- I went to the clinic, gave them my paperwork, they made some calls, said I was covered and I didn't even need to provide a credit card. Just today, I got a call telling me I owe the clinic $500. Do I care?

Coming soon: Pippi Blondestocking

An unknown publisher has used Amazon's CreateSpace to make a new, three-in-one volume of L.M. Montgomery’s classic "Anne of Green Gables" series with a bold re-imagining of Anne's look on the cover. Reactions are more or less as expected.

Which job boards are worth my job-posting dollar?

I need to find a Web designer -- but one that can design for a Django environment. MeFi Jobs hasn't turned up anything, and free sites just get me spam from India. What pay-to-play posting sites are worth paying for?

Am I turning crap wine into crap port with SCIENCE?

We're hitting -25C here for the next few days, so I thought I'd indulge in an experiment -- putting 2.5L of cheap kit Shiraz into a food-safe container with a loose-fitting lid outside and fishing the ice out at the end of every day. What should I expect? When should I stop?

Are Bollywood musical numbers in-story or fantasy?

In Bollywood films, should I think of the musical numbers as something that exist in-story -- that is, the characters literally stop talking and break into a dance number, then return to normal -- or as fantasies that exist only in the lead actor's mind? Or would the best way to parse them be as kind of a Greek Chorus meta-comment?

Building an online dropbox for magazine photo submissions

What's my best option for a skinnable, low-fuss, online “mail slot” where people can submit photos and descriptions for a magazine? Me: reasonably Web-capable, have my own hosting service. The readership: largely seniors, not very Web-savvy.

I wanted to start learning how Twitter Bootstrap...

How tall is Jack Reacher? I wanted to start learning how Twitter Bootstrap works, and to brush up on my very rough HTML skills, so in a fit of pique I decided to make a protest site about a certain actor of a certain stature casting himself for a certain movie about a certain men's adventure hero. Including actual-size height charts and short reviews of every Reacher novel according to my patented 4-D Reacher Review® system (Deadly/Daunting/Detective/Drifter).
