Travel Inspiration Needed
There are river cruises in Europe that my parents have done. With these river cruises, you end up at ports of call that are right in the middle of the city so it's different from ocean cruising. It's a very different way of traveling, with a small group you are with over an extended period of time. There are YouTube videos about these cruises if you're interested in seeing what one might be like and whether it would be a travel mode you enjoy.

Looking for parts for an old range/oven
Ack! I didn' know the photo of the stove didn't work right. Here is the picture of the stove.

So, after a bit of needing to let everything rest in my head for a while, I finally ordered an element for my stove! What I'm now wondering is, because it isn't the same shape as the one I pulled out of the oven... what is the best way to go about bending this new element, which won't arrive for a week, into a shape that matches the old element? I assume this is important for "even" heat distribution. Do I just use my hands, or pliers, or pliers with a cloth on them, or round-edge… [more]

And wow! My oven element arrived today, a week early, and I got it installed fine. A bit of a process but really just screws and wires. And now we've got the oven on, and the new element is glowing and I think this repair worked!

Thanks so much everyone for helping me with this task that took way longer than it should have!

Actually, let me add a few more notes at the end of this because this might be useful information.

The model number of the stove KDK4C I gave above is correct and is what led me to find the replacement element I needed. There was a lot of other searching I did across time -- the KARO number, the number on the actual element itself, various brands and websites... What really held me back for a long time was that it felt like I had no clear path forward.… [more]

Queer Women In Music
This list of suggestions thus far is fantastic and I'm looking forward to beginning some research beyond what has been contributed here. I hope you will continue suggesting artists because I'm not sure what shape these postings will take yet, and the more I can draw from, the better this will be.

I will say, if you suggested something and you don't see a post about it... well, I have a lot of suggestions and will try rolling appropriate people together if it seems proper.… [more]

Like I said, I had a short list in my head, but man, there is so much here! I thank everyone for all the pointers so far, and look forward to any more that come in. June will be pretty great for sure, but I suspect there will be posts continuing long after that.

Special locations/accommodations - affordable because they're far-flung
If you've never been to Carlsbad Caverns, that's a good choice. Carlsbad itself is a total pain in the ass to get to by car, but if you can fly in, you'd have it sorted.

David Koresh Media Recommendations?
The podcast Long Shadow did an excellent first season on 9/11, but is now doing a second season about the armed militia right wing movement in the US. The first episode is about Waco, because that's where much of this starts.

You are not my cat's vet, but I have a question about ear infections.
Is this a cat-only vet? You might see if there is a specialist cat vet you could go to for a second opinion. I went to one for my boy cat, and while I probably won't go back for routine things, for the health issues I was curious about, I got good professional advice about procedures and costs and risks and prognoses.

Certainly a second vet opinion is cheaper than $1200.

Can CBD help stop teeth grinding at night?
I'm going to recommend justcbdstore.com as a place I've purchased from repeatedly with good quality product. They're a bit expensive and I'm going to be shopping around a bit more, but I purchased from this reputable place first to make sure it would work for me.

Meth and Fentanyl Exposure
If the people were smoking the meth, and were really smoking a lot, and you had a child, or a pet that liked to lick walls, you'd probably want at least a paint job because the residue would have settled on nearby surfaces, like walls. But it's not like the whole cop/fentanyl panic "i touched it and now I'm in a coma" bullshit. I guess in this case it would be "and now I'm killing my grandmother" but you know what I mean.

Non-ambient music for focusing
My all-time go-to for "I have an hour where I need mental focus so I need music that has structure but isn't distracting" is Steve Reich - Music For 18 Musicians. This is the original recording, there have been many others of various tempos and lengths (the piece allows for repeated sections), and a lot of live performances also on YouTube.

I can't tell you how much discovering this piece of music changed my life. Not just in the "suspended time"… [more]

Skilful criminals criming skilfully
I was coming here to mention the Lupin stories. If you do streaming, there's a really good English dub of a French series based on the books that is endlessly entertaining and full of brilliant "I'll fool 'em" heist sort of moments. It's a limited series, too, so it's not an eternal commitment.

I haven't read any of the books, but apparently there are many of them.

Current tv
It's not an answer to the question, but I have been a DISH customer forever and when Current appeared there I would put it on for long stretches. That first format it had was truly fun and innovative for its time. It's a shame of it's all just so much lost media now. Is there a list somewhere of creators for the channel which might yield some current info to ask about their work back then? That might be a way to get some material back.

Finishing a song when you come up with the lyrics first
Elton John is the man you want to talk to. He takes lyrics from Bernie Taupin and turns them into songs.

I've seen some stuff about what he does. He doesn't feel beholden to the lyrics fixed on the page. He will rearrange things and change lines, keeping mostly Taupin's words.

So maybe one lesson is to not feel your lyrics are gospel, and allow yourself to change things as you create the melody and flesh out the song.

Pick-Me-Up Gifts?
Nothing they later have to dust!

I love the googly eyes idea. They make really big ones, too, if you know someone who might enjoy that.

I'd say if you wanted to give someone something that was practical as well as consumable, maybe something involving soup or stew and add some locally handmade pottery bowls. We've been slowly gathering pottery bowls here and they are edging out the more boring bowls for use and cupboard space, and even for everyday use they feel more special.

How about a novel where a crow is the protagonist and struggling against a zombie apocalypse in Seattle? Hollow Kingdom is funny and creative, and it has a sequel now too, although I haven't read that yet.

Dancing with myself
If you want to get fun with it, sort of inspired by a scene in the movie 13 Going On 30, you can learn the Thriller dance here. I aspire to learn it well enough to break it out at a party or club if it gets played. Alas, I have not yet mastered that.

I mostly club dance like a drunken monkey, but I have fun and people don't seem to hate what I'm doing. It's never occurred to me to try to learn moves for that. I thought people who could do that just, um... could do them?

Millions of Cherries, What Could They Be?
So, for your plant identification needs, there is a paid app (that is well worth the few bucks) called Seek, which lets you point your cell phone camera at basically any plant or animal or insect and it will tell you what it is. It's some of the most magical technology I've ever encountered, and I recommend it for any and everyone. It will probably identify these cherries for you without fail.

Help with a differently-brained co-worker
I'm just feeling sensitive to someone that probably has a different prism through which they view the world than I do. I'm not stuck on it really, just hoping I did right and wondering if anyone has feedback to help me in the future.

Okay, like here's an example. The next time this guy is on my team, I'm thinking of saying to him "You take lunch at the time you said you wanted to. Would you feel better if someone were there to take your place when you went to lunch, or do you feel okay if you just leave?"

Pop album intro tracks
Spandau Ballet's Through The Barricades album [Discogs] begins with an instrumental piano track stating the theme of the title song "Barricades - Introduction", and that segues into the first main song. You don't hear that theme again until the end of the album which closes with the full title track.

I really love that album, now that I think about it.

New job, New Pain! Help!
Oh, I know those chin tucks! My bestest friend in the whole world has bad neck problems and he has a regimen of exercises he does every 2 hours to help him out. We've gone traveling together, and I was insistent that when his phone alarm went off, we found a place for him to do his thing, and I was entirely willing to wait during that because it improved his life.

Yes, I have been doing that. I've been studying all my movements and ways to stand and stuff to try to figure this out. I'm well trained on overcoming body pain through careful movement. I just haven't figured this out yet because the pain is so delayed.

That wide leg stance is good for about 20 minutes, maybe 30 tops. It does help, though.

That's an interesting question.

Let me follow up with movement assessment and PT consultations before I try to take on the company, but I might ask others who are tall how they have coped with these problems.

It's weird to know that being tall is a disadvantage, but in places like professional kitchens or workspaces like this (there is no way to raise these platforms), they aren't planning for you being my height.

I'm working on finding a good stool, but with no overhang under which I can pull the stool, there's a leaning forward which is also problematic. Maybe I can find a compromise involving a stool that's not sitting and not standing, but is my butt being supported by something other than my legs in a less-than-tall position.

I'm still concerned with shoulders and such though, and would appreciate some chatter about arms, shoulders, and things I could think about regarding those.

So I'm going to move slowly and ask around a bit, but I won't take more than a week to get things figured out.

What is this?
What are the dimensions of it? It looks like it might be a wood corder, or half-corder. As in, if you stack it full of split wood cut to the width of the bottom, you have a set volume of wood. A cord s defined as 4' by 8' by 2'. So if the dimensions of that are 4x8, then that's what it is.

There are some images of various wood corders in this article about what is a cord of wood. The one at the top looks very similar to yours, even if it isn't pictured entirely.

Thanks for the kind answers and attention to this question, everyone. I've gotten a heating pad, CBD stuff and two different joint aids, omega oils and glucosamine/etc. I looked around the area for a cat specialist vet and found this wonderful (seeming) office run by women in the sort of "cool" part of the city so I'll try to get him an appointment there soon. I'm also restricting his diet which he is going to hate but oh well.

So, my cat is entirely unwilling to eat either wet or dry food that has been mixed with any of the supplements, either separately or in different combinations. We've cut back his rations a lot and he's grumpy enough about that, but he starved himself for two days before I gave up and gave him unadulterated food, which he ate.

So, I'm not sure how to get any of these helpful things I bought into him. But I'll keep trying!
