Do I need a lawyer to file for a simple divorce in Toronto (Sept 2018)?
I divorced in Canada (BC) a few years ago and would not recommend skipping the lawyer. My divorce was also uncontested and not messy, but the lawyer thought of things that I would not have thought to cover. We could have divorced using a notary and the [BC Family Law guide]((https://familylaw.lss.bc.ca/guides/divorce/), but I am certain that I would have been kicking myself now had I done so.

The lawyer was incredibly helpful in dealing with the splitting of assets and… [more]

"Nikki Minaj Won't Get Out of My Head" or, pathological earworms
My partner has to deal with intrusive thoughts, anxiety, OCD and so on. She is similarly affected by music, although not in the form of ear worms. In her case the problem is the underlying emotional aspects of music, like hearing something in a minor key suddenly clicks her brain over into depressive loops. This is not limited to depression. Angry music can maker her angry. Happy, energetic music can make her manic. Sometimes her brain latches onto specific song lyrics and they loop around in… [more]

School lunch hacks, for older kids
Home made frozen burrito! If you go vegetarian with it you don't even need to heat them up. By lunch time they will be thawed and safe to eat. Then just buy a bag of apples/oranges/seasonal fruit each week to be added as snacks.

Get together with him and make a big batch of burrito filler together. It's easy, doesn't take that long and you can prep a month's worth of lunches in a single cooking and wrapping session. Maybe you can get him to slice the veggies while you… [more]

Oh! Another idea. Overnight oats. If you do them in a lidded container then they can just be grabbed along with a spoon and eaten when he gets hungry. They're another recipe that is easy to switch up with minor variations and it's really easy to mix in healthy bonuses like chia or flax seeds. More work than the burrito idea since you/he would have to make it each night, but night time prep is a lot easier for a teenager than morning prep.

What to gift myself
Ask yourself whether you will really use that Switch and be honest with yourself. I also go through phases where I am really interested in gaming where that is my main leisure activity. Then after a few months I am sick of games and on a movie kick or devouring novels or any number of other things. I bought a Switch in January and I really like it, but I also feel like it hasn't paid for itself yet. Sometimes I look at it and wish that I had invested that $300 + $100 for another controller +… [more]

Neighbor's weed usage is waking me up due to the smell. Help!
Realistically you will not be able to get your neighbor to stop smoking weed. If they're a good human they will try and avoid impacting you, but it's going to happen at least sometimes even with them doing their best. Reporting them to building management (or police, definitely don't do that if you're in the USA) is just going to result in a toxic neighbor.

I recommend the neighborly approach of talking to them and trying to find a compromise. Let them know you are… [more]

How do I stop YouTube from resizing videos?
Is it defaulting to cinema mode? There is a button in the lower right hand corner of the player to switch back and forth from cinema mode. It's kind a of a rectangle icon.

You might be able to use a firefox addon like Iridium or Enhancer for YouTube to override defaults without logging in. I don't use firefox and have not used those specific addons, but they look like what you'd want.

Has anyone used one of these creepy-looking snore guards?
Yes. I've tried a variety of different kinds. I know you're talking about the tongue suction kind, but for the sake of other people looking for anti-snore help that stumble upon this in the future I'll talk about both kinds.

So the tongue-bulb-suction things only help if you are a tongue snorer. They way the work is you squeeze the bubble and suction it to your tongue. It then has a kind of pacifier guard with the bulb part staying outside of your mouth. They're actually… [more]

Individual hummingbirds have taken control of my feeders
In my experience this is pretty normal for hummingbirds. They are very territorial and will guard "their" feeders. Often they will have a nest in the area and you might see juvenile birds and females that the male doesn't chase away from the feeder.

I find their duels and other antics part of the fun of having a hummingbird feeder, but if it's really bothering you then your best bet is to space your feeders further apart and possibly add one or two more to your… [more]
