Oh wait I was thinking of the wrong part. The lead synth is a Korg Monologue and I have the LFO going really high at the beginning of the first note and dialing it down to 0 by the time it's time for the lead to start going

It kind of works right!? Like when it repeats enough it kind of fades into the background and becomes almost like part of the rhythm section rather than being an actual melodic riff or whatever, very much a Steve Reich kind of trick. That is totally what I am going for so your feedback totally made my day, cheers!!

chococat - I placed the mic about 2-3 feet away from the bass, around the same height of the f-holes. I prefer to mic my double bass with some distance, I've never gotten particularly good results with a close-mic situation.

I honestly was torn between putting it to a beat & whatnot and just kinda leaving it as is... after leaving it for a while and coming back to it, I found I was really fond of the simplicity of just letting the synth shine on its own. Then again, there's nothing wrong with a 2nd version....

Thanks! It's an old Roland DP-90 which I got for an absolute steal at my work. It's a furniture-style piano, top of the line in its day. However, it was damaged during shipping, and the stand and pedal unit were broken. We couldn't really sell it, but the keyboard itself works perfectly. I basically got it for a song and a dance, such a deal!

I totally hear you on vocoding; it's a great escape from the typical trials and tribulations of recording vocals. Also, giving the vocoder treatment to more acoustic/folky type songs is a great idea. And my JD-XA has a vocoder... hmm.

Instant classic MicroKorg tune! Great use of some classic presets, and great vocodin'!

Try using an SM58 in place of the factory mic at well! I seem to recall a dynamic microphone making for a cleaner, tighter signal for the vocoder to work with, and it having generally better results. But that was a long time a go, I might be mistaken.

Did you get the newer version with the built-in speakers?
