Windows equivalent of thesweetsetup?

Where do Windows people go to find app reviews and recommendations? I'm trying to find a decent pomodoro/clock app and they're pretty terrible, let alone a calendar app. Apple's walled garden and comparatively small selection made it easy to find decent UI and features, but with Windows, I'm at sea. Please recommend review sites you trust. I don't need specific app recommendations but sites.

Best of ‘Included in your (Audible) subscription’?

What is the best content on audible that is included with a standard subscription? So far, for example, I have found the complete Sherlock Holmes read by Stephen Fry, and a handful of shorts set in METAtropolis by some of my favorite authors, a couple Scalzis, the first Murderbot. What else should I look at (har har). Outstanding reader and outstanding content both welcome.

Does this kind of not-a-TV TV exist?

My primary method of watching shows (a 17” MacBook Pro) has recently aged out of the OS the main streaming sites require. I don’t follow tech advancements, but I know many of you do! What are my options when I want something in the realm of 17-20” that I can put away when not in use?

How do I crypto (again)?

Sorry if this question is convoluted or confusing... I am very confused myself as it's been several years since I even touched crypto and the fact that everything feels foreign to me already is part of the reason why I want to sell them and never touch it again.

But is it a cookie?

I have been assigned to bring cookies for an event. This is for a crowd that would enjoy debating whether something is actually a cookie, along the lines of the soup/salad/sandwich question. So, I'm looking for inspiration of what I could bring that is arguably a cookie, but isn't the expected basic sugar/flour/butter combo. What are your favorite dessert recipes that are cookie-shaped, could be modified to be cookie-shaped, or could otherwise arguably be categorized as a cookie?

Online searchable list of musical performances

Say I wanted to know if a certain musical artist will be performing in my area - or if a certain piece of music will be performed in my area - in the coming months. Are there online resources that would help me figure this out by aggregating upcoming events from many venues and making the results searchable? This would be relative to my location: Chicago, USA.

What kind of physical health professional am I looking for?

I'm a couple years shy of 40, and I want to get serious about physical health. I have a connective tissue disorder (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) which gives me over-flexible joints, leading to flat feet, poor posture, and surprising pain when I over-exercise. But I want to exercise. I think I want to pay someone to help me set and accomplish some long-term goals, but who is also knowledgeable about posture and joint issues. What kind of professional am I looking for? A trainer at Planet Fitness? A moonlighting physical therapist? A Lifestyle Coach? A body mentor?

what's the point of using baking soda and vinegar together?

I see "baking soda and vinegar" recommended as a cleaning solution (for drains, various cruddy buildup, etc) and I don't get it. Vinegar alone, ok, the acid might dissolve something. Baking soda alone, maybe the alkalinity would dissolve something. But if I put baking soda in a drain and then chase it with vinegar, aren't I just making bubbly salt water (or at best, a nearly neutral, only slightly acidic or alkaline solution?) Wouldn't it be better to choose one or the other, maybe with hot water added?

How the US almost accidentally launched a nuclear attack on the USSR

Several years ago I read an article about an episode in which the US almost launched a nuclear first strike on the USSR. I may have read it on Metafilter. A single person, stationed in the western Pacific (maybe near Japan?) was mistakenly sent the launch command. He asked repeatedly for confirmation, and was repeatedly told, "don't bother me, just do what you're told." He did not launch the strike, and was eventually able to get his contact to realize it was a mistake.

How to get quality, zero VOC furniture without breaking the bank?

I'm going to be furnishing a large space starting from almost scratch. How can I get furniture that is high quality (solid wood, all or mostly hardwood, joins instead of screws everywhere when possible), zero VOC (cushions that are filled with wool, cotton, latex, down, etc. rather than foam), and ideally no synthetic fibers (upholstery that uses wool, cotton, linen, silk) at the best possible price? The ideal style would be mid-century modern.

Conserving old apple trees

We have a couple historic apple trees on our property, have to be at least 100 years old and they are probably not going to survive another 10 years. I would like to preserve and replant some of the same species - is this something I can do with an arborist or seedling center, bring some seeds/apples/etc and pay to have them grown to a state they can be planted in? And is there any particular course of action best taken here?

Weird and unique things to see and do in New England (USA)

Long long ago, before the search for things buried in images proliferated on mobile platforms, there was this classic early example. A true test of your observation skills, it will keep you going for some time. The editor of this image has cleverly hidden within it a can of Spam. Can you find it? It has stymied tens of thousands of searchers for over twenty years. Good luck to you, internet user, and find that spam!
