Bruce Willis Retires, Probably Years Too Late
Finances could absolutely be a reason for his working so often these last few years. I recall he tried to sell his house here in Westchester County NY inm 2019. He ended up selling it for ~$6 million off the asking price. He paid $12 million for it.. He lost about $5 million actual cash dollars.

I wondered why, at the time he was selling and he was a motivated seller. It struck me as odd. I thought he could be patient. Turns out he was setting up his and his… [more]

Our site is far from comprehensive and doesn't claim to be.
Well I just found out that Me and My Uncle was originally recorded by Judy Collins and that Bob Weir somehow made it his own. I guess repeated playing in concert. Ah, Bob and his cowboy songs...

wanna go paperless?
Literally two days ago, my 26 year old child, one who works as a coder in the tech world, said to me, "I now understand and appreciate why you always use cash Pops."

Paperless statements? Why? Then I have to print them out using my paper and my ink when I need to submit something. Why should I save this bank or this company money when all they do is fuck with me?

My kids also make fun of me because I will do everything in my power,… [more]

Joe Biden's first State of the Union address
Boring speech rehashing his agenda. He did seem to admit there was a problem with the open southern border but he told the congress they should fix it. It was like he was speaking directly to Manchin. Btw, Manchin was sitting with Romney on the REPUBLICAN side. Lol. They said it was to show unity. Unity of what I ask?

lol, buddy, good luck finding the Lincoln tunnel
I learned this as a teen in the 70s. Well most of it. I also vaguely remember being told that all of the entrances and exits on the interstates are wide enough for military vehicles, including tanks, to be able to use them. There are also a lot of federal funding issues/associations that go with interstate highways. For example, the state in which the highway is sets the speed limit. Except, in the 70s or maybe 80s, the federales coerced all states to set the speed limit at 55 by telling… [more]

From Politico (AP):

“Most well-known people try to be nicer than they are in public than they are in private life. PJ was the only man I knew to be the opposite. He was a deeply kind and generous man who pretended to be a curmudgeon for public consumption,” tweeted Peter Sagal, the host of “Wait Wait... Don’t Tell Me!”

“He told the best stories. He had the most remarkable friends. And he devoted himself to

Coach Dean Smith's Last Fight
I am a Wahoo, a UVa man through and through, but I made two exceptions over the years. One was Phil Ford. I used to dribble around my backyard court for hours, literally, pretending I was Phil running the four corners. I will never forget the ACC tournament game against Ralph Sampson that finally convinced the NCAA to adopt the shot clock.

The second exception was, of course, Dean Smith. My brothers and I could all do that nasal imitation of his voice. Maybe it was… [more]

I think the issue with this app is the how they market it. I think the marketing of it is playing to the whole bro culture in a somewhat parody way, but the app itself is serious. The app has a lot of off label uses. It still comes down to the user and who he/she is. It can be used for good or evil so to speak.

Potvin Sucks !!
I am one of the rare NYers who likes both the Islanders and Rangers. I grew up on the Island not too far from Roosevelt Field and the Coliseum, but my family had seasons to the Rangers. While I still root for the Blue Shirts, I fell for the Islanders cup teams. They were some great teams. Dennis Potvin was a great talent. He was not up to Bobby Orr's level (no one is and I have a great story about defending Bobby Orr) but he played Orr like. Bossy was quite the scorer. All of them lived… [more]

Scouting Long Island’s Decommissioned Nuclear Power Plant
I grew up on LI when this plant was built. I was in Nassau county, not Suffolk. I asked my mother once what the plan was in case of accident. She said we would pile in the station wagon and drive over the Throgs Neck bridge. Maybe head upstate or to relatives in NJ. When I mentioned getting to the Throgs Neck on a good day was fraught with monster delays, she just shrugged and said, "Well, that's the plan. At least if we die, we die trying."

Where's... Walther?
I spotted about 50% of them, but the more I looked at some of the photos, the more suspicious I became of every single bump, dark spot, color change, etc. Are we sure there aren't more than one in any picture? I also think it is harder to spot a sniper in a photo than it would be in a video. Movement gives some away and even things like the reflection off the rifle scope can tip you off.

And getting caught in the rain
Here is an interesting interview/discussion with RH about his song. He seems to have a decent sense of humor.

Says Rupert, "I have a feeling that if I saved an entire orphanage from a fire and carried the last child out on my shoulders, as I stood there charred and smoking, they'd say, 'Aren't you the guy who wrote The Pina Colada Song?'

Why It’s Nearly Impossible to Castrate a Hippo
So 25 years ago I went on a date with a woman who worked at the Lincoln Park Zoo. It was one date only. I always thought I scared her away when she said to me at the end of the evening, "You have the package of a hippo". For 25 years I was proud to be like a hippo. Now I know the truth about why it was a one date relationship.
