Every time I check out at TGT, the cashier asks if I want to save 5% today and everyday with a Target Red Card. Every time I politely say no thanks. They usually are incredulous that I would not want to save 5%. I explain to them that it would have to be closer to 25% for me to let them track and profile me. That yields a shrug and my change.

Well the only stat I could find that I think is truly relevant is that the Grateful Dead indicator. They played Ann Arbor three times. Once, almost 42 years ago to the day on December 14, 1971 and then again at Crisler on April 5, 1989 and April 6, 1989. On all of those days there were 2,844 total instances of the word "hippy" used by local police, 2,218 uses of the phrase, "long-haired freak", 2,095 times someone held up a one finger and had a sign that said, "Need… [more]

Griphus, I get that idea and concur, but this was the judge overruling the prosecutor who asked for 15 days. I guess the judge is cynical by now and in on it with the cops, but I am not yet so it all bothers me.

I have lived with over 20 cats in my lifetime, and have only had two that genuinely loved me.

I lived with a wife for what seemed a lifetime (18 years) and she genuinely loved me...until she moved out and didn't anymore. I get the feeling my cat would do the same if given the opportunity.

The Summer Game is what got me hooked on Angell as well. Baseball is such a terrific sport and Angell's writing seems to make it that much more glorious.

Putting Angell aside, I have to agree with languagehat that the Hall is incomplete without Marvin Miller. It also needs to include Curt Flood.

This is on in reruns on one of the local cable channels. I think they call it ME TV although I am not sure what the "ME" stands for. (Mildly Entertaining?) But, this is the channel that brings quality like F Troop and Hogan's Heroes and Get Smart to name a few. It can be found streaming online too.

Love me some Combat episodes. I am going to sound like the oldster that I am, but they don't make tv like that any more. Too bad.

Assuming the facts are as reported by the NYTimes, then this cop got away with murder. The strangest part is that the victim's brother, a deputy sheriff, flipped sides and is now bff with the cop murderer. This is the shoddiest investigation followed by friends protecting friends.

Fucking Florida.

Ok, so the year is around 1972. I am in elementary school. There is an assembly. One of the students in the school's cousin is going to perform. After the pledge of Allegiance and a few other grade school announcements, on comes this strange man dressed as it turns out, Elvis Presley. Anyway, the only thing I remember was Andy Kaufman doing his Elvis imitation and a few other things that creeped out this young fellow. Ever since that day, I have been afraid of Andy Kaufman. One weird cat.
