Time for some new reading material.
All You Zombies, by Robert Heinlein, one of the greatest time-travel stories ever written.

Capture worry in the form of media
There's a scene in the original "Producers" where Gene Wilder is talking with Zero Mostel, who is timing Wilder with a stopwatch. I think Wilder's reaction counts as worry or anxiety.

My Dream is Telling Me [...]
The best advice I got about dream interpretation was very similar to Elysum's suggestion. Ask questions about the imagery, events, etc, and answer quickly, without thinking too much about the answers. If your friend from 6th grade is in the dream, ask yourself questions like "what's he wearing? Why is he wearing that? What's he doing? How did he get there?". Do it with inanimate objects, too. Of the black staircase covered in blood "What would it say if it could talk?… [more]

Until we develop food-over-IP...
A few things:

1) If it's actually a confidential shelter, they won't even acknowledge that she's there, and likely won't even agree to pass on information, packages, etc. You can still try, but be prepared to hear "We don't give out information about who is here, or our address".

2) Don't judge her, even if she does things you disagree with. The shame and isolation associated with DV arise in part because victims do things that… [more]

Automatically populate cells in Excel?
I believe, in 2003, this feature is controlled by Tools>Options>Edit>Extend data range formats and formulas. But I can't always get it to work just by toggling that box. Some answers might be here

How can I end the therapy hour more easily?
I walk about 1 1/4 miles one way to my appointment, so I have about 15-20 minutes to walk afterwards, and that's when I do most of my post-session processing. Sometimes, I stop for a cookie or coffee at a local bakery (Since SaraC shared, this is where I go)

What to do in South Seattle?
There are a bunch of places in Georgetown. I'd suggest starting at Smarty Pants, a pretty nifty bar with some great sandwiches. I've also had some great meals at Muy Macho

How do we prepare for a future without someone we love?
It might be a lot of work, but what about making time capsules that your daughter opens on milestone birthdays? Say, 5 years, 10 years, 16 years, 21 years (or whatever number appeals to you). They could include age-appropriate messages, pictures, articles, gifts, etc.

Please help me maximize this job opportunity
A few things, in case anyone is still looking/thinking:

1) My department (IT) tried to implement ITIL, but the efforts fizzled out since there was no broader organizational support for it (we aren't a technology shop, and the other demands of the business took precedence). We use a few of the ideas, but no broad structure.

2) My immediate manager had suggested Six Sigma to me, but I think it's a more involved than this organization would support.… [more]

Thoughtful stories about what it means to think.
I just finished the awesome book "The End of Mr Y", by Scarlett Thomas, and it's about a lot (a lot!) of things, including thought and consciousness. It's been mentioned here before.

Can't I just get a pelvic exam over the phone?
The King County Sexual Assault Resource Center is going to be able to help you with the kind of referral you're asking for. And I don't know if the therapist you saw specialized in abuse, but KCSARC can likely assist you in finding someone that will be able to give you concrete suggestions.

There are national hotlines as well (1-800-656-HOPE, for example) that might be able to make referrals, but KCSARC is local, and will know local resources.

Good luck!

Take this job and ... give it to me!
It looks to me as if there is a pretty heavy training component to this job, so think about preparing for that aspect of it too. How you'd set up curricula/outlines, delivery across offices, etc. Talking about standardization across offices is also not a bad idea, although good luck with actually implementing standards in a law firm ;-)

What can the animals do for revolution?
I too am generally of the "people first" camp. However, while not exactly what you're looking for, there are a number of resources that suggest that cruelty to animals (pets specifically) is linked to Domestic Violence.

Is this a good goal?
I saw a karaoke brand-newbie do "I wanna Be Sedated". He got so into it and worked up while on stage he took off his jacket, spun it around in the air and threw it across the room. Simple lyrics, melody, but energetic. And it looked like he had great fun.

Need a dentist on the Seattle Eastside
I hadn't gone to a dentist in over 20 years, and my wife made me go see someone at Meydenbauer Dental (Dr. Lu). Apart from one or two amazed comments, no one said a single thing about the length of time since my last dentist appointment (which was in another city). They were kind, thorough, communicative and gentile, and very concerned with making sure my experience was good.

Now, my wife told them ahead of time that it had been a while, but they were great.… [more]

My friend is being stalked and harassed, how can we help?
The National Center for Victims of Crime maintains the Stalking Resource Center. Some of it is geared towards organizations, but a lot of it is for individuals.

Perhaps a referral, if your friend has access to the Internet.

How to figure this out?
I did it through trial and error. I worked with environmentalism, child abuse, HIV+ folks, sexual abuse victims. I tried being a campus activist, did a teeny tiny bit of politicking, and then after casting about for 15+ years found the world of domestic violence advocacy, which is where I focus my time these days (well, my free time when not earning a paycheck). And I know that it "actually makes [my] presence on earth worth it for other human beings", because I've gotten that… [more]

Something fishy in the kitchen?
One thing about homemade sushi...unless you're making it for a large party, be careful of how much you buy. A little fish goes a loooooooooooong way, so you likely won't get the variety you have if you go out to eat.

PhD retrospective
I didn't complete my degree for a wide variety of reasons. The biggest thing I should have done differently was take some time off between undergrad and grad school (or, I suppose, before entering undergrad). That perspective would have been extremely valuable.

Scenic seattle drive
After Fremont go back up to Ballard, come back south over the Ballard bridge, then go to Discovery Park and around Magnolia (along Magnolia blvd). There are a bunch of nice places to stop there that overlook the bay. Then after Magnolia, go up and over Queen Anne. Stop at El Diablo and get a Cubano to gear you up for the rest of the night...

How to choose a Montessori school
Not a parent, but a former teacher. A few things to look for/ask:

1) How many of the teachers have Montessori certificates? That is, how many were formally trained themselves in Montessori?

2) Look at the equipment in the classroom, and make sure it's clean/organized/complete. A fully-stocked classroom can be very expensive, but you want to make sure the basic materials are there. You can find online catalogs that have lists, here's one.… [more]

Who're good speculative fiction writers who write fine prose?
For me, it's hard to suss out stuff I like vs. stuff that's written well. Here are a few:

Michael Chabon and Jonathan Lethem are both excellent authors that build fascinating worlds and write masterfully. Every few pages in Yiddish Policeman's Union I'd stop and pause to catch my breath and savor a paragraph or two. Same with Gun, With Occasional Music

And Delany's one of my favorite authors, but I'd suggest Stars In My Pocket Like Grains of Sand.

How did you know therapy was benefiting you?
"I'm terrified I'm going to be in therapy five years later, with nothing to show."

Depending on who you are, where you are, what you're dealing with, therapy isn't just plugging some variables into a formula and pressing a button. It can be long, hard work.

Over the last two years in therapy, I have gained a much deeper understanding of myself, my motivations and the forces that affect my life then I ever had before. In fact, I think… [more]

Does therapy actually work for depression?
"But I feel ashamed for my outburst. And I feel even more hopeless in my depression, as calling the Hotline really reinforced the fact that a stranger can't save me from the garbage inside my head."

I can't help you find a therapist, that's something you'll just need to keep at. But the thoughts you express above are symptoms of what you're going through, and if you can find a way to realize it, it'll help you understand. Think about it this way. If you were… [more]

One more thing. My depression lasted a long time, as did my suicidal ideation. I got out of it slowly, with the help of therapy, medicine and changing my life (finding a job I didn't hate, exercising, etc). And I'll say now that while I still have depressive tendencies, I haven't thought about suicide in a long time.

What worked for me may not work for you. But the fact that your feelings persist aren't an indication that you are doomed.

How Do I Extract Multiple Data and Put Them into CSV Format?
This might do it. Put it in Excel. Number the rows. Sort with two factors, the first is your column with the labels, the second is row number. Your data will now be listed with all of the Name1 values in order, and your Name2 values will be in the same order (so if you line up the data, name1 and name2 should match).

You can copy and paste those sorted values into distinct columns in the order you want.

2nding Micawber (all of it). Adding that you need to continue to support her, even if she makes choices you don't agree with. Unconditional support is the only way she'll continue to have a lifeline should she get back with him.

The Stalking Resource Center is a great place to start.

Also, "manipulative and controlling" is domestic violence, and you might look at resources along those lines, for both your sister (if she's interested) and you (for what you're dealing with).
