Outdoor dining in downtown Seattle
The Victor Tavern at the Qualtrics Building (nee 2+U) (map, site) has an outdoor patio with ~20 seats. Google says it's a 16 minute walk from convention center.

It's in the middle of a large outdoor atrium underneath a hi-rise, and will be protected pretty well from the elements, except the cold. It's new, and I don't know whether they'll put out heaters, but they probably will.

I was there yesterday, and someone reserved the entire outdoor… [more]

I meant to add, the website has pictures. This one shows the patio (behind the tree). This one, from the building's site, shows the patio (without tables) and gives you an idea of the coverage.

I don't know any attorneys that can help directly, but here are some resources that might be able to offer advice/direction:

King County Bar Association Neighborhood Legal Clinics

Best Bike gadgets, accessories, and add-ons?
I have Axiom panniers, and I love them. Insides are always dry (and I commute in Seattle), and the front pocket is super-useful for wallet/cell phone so you don't have to open the bag and dig around. They don't make my model anymore, but the closest I see now is this. It looks like they've changed the mounting system, and while mine (the Modul-Rail, here) is great, I can't speak for the Vario, which it looks like the new bags use.

I have a Lezyne pump mounted on the… [more]

I can't answer your question, but I wanted to say kudos to you for the things that you did. The vast majority of people would have just walked on by.

How do you count your calories? Looking for tips and suggestions.
I've done it on and off over the last 10 years, and at first I was using MyFitnessPal but last year switched to Cronometer.

The trick for me in not making myself obsess was to accept that some of it was going to be approximate, and then figure out ways to make good guesses. And I try to overestimate how many calories are in whatever I'm eating.

One thing to realize is that a "slice" of bread is not an exact measurement, right, because… [more]

Fruit eaten out of a Cheetos bag?
Upon reflection I think the first one I saw was flamin' hot Cheetos. I remember the walking tacos thread, and didn't connect them because it was a fruit stand.

Thanks for the info, MeFites!

Best grounding techniques for crowded/emotionally ovewhelming events?
I went through a training with a group that published a free app called iChill that has a series of short, guided exercises to help get through stressful or traumatic situations. You can do them with the app active, or just learn the exercises and do them on your own. Some of them are absolutely easy to do in a crowd.

I also use Proton, and have used it to watch stuff from all over. The account I have will let me use it on my mobile, but I haven't yet.

It came recommended from some people in IT security at my firm, not that that should sway you.

How to donate a large amount of instant ramen
All three of the food banks I've volunteered at (Seattle) give out ramen. One of them even buys it if they don't get it donated.

Coping with loneliness while not working
Volunteering was how I stayed connected at the start of the pandemic. North Helpline's food bank at Lake City needs people during the week during the day, it's a big open warehouse and during distribution they keep the garage door wall(s) open (so it's less risky, COVID-wise).

Partner has been taken in for domestic violence - help
(Disclaimer, I'm a volunteer domestic violence advocate. And on preview, most of this is just reiterating what others have said)

I can't speak for where you are, but in Seattle, there's a rule that says if the police determine a DV assault has been committed, someone has to be arrested. Usually, but not always, that will be determined by who has been physically damaged the most (who is the "primary aggressor"). This rule is in place in large part to give DV… [more]

Could this be considered "stalking"?
Stalking and harassment usually rise to the level of criminal charges if there is a pattern of behavior. Not always, but mostly.

If this incident happened once, it might be considered stalking depending on exact circumstances and your location (as ftm asked).

Consider though, that if the mother knows that your wife doesn't want anything to do with her, and repeatedly tried to communicate with her, then shows up, that is a pattern of behavior… [more]

What could cause a zapping sensation in my index finger?
IANYD, but I am typing with one hand because I had surgery this past Wednesday for carpal tunnel issues. My two symptoms were numbness and tingling in my thumb, index and middle fingers, and electric shocks in my hand when I extended my arm.

Your median nerve is the one implicated if the shocks are between your index and middle finger, and there are a number of ways it can be affected, pressure on the carpal tunnel being one, thoracic outlet syndrome being another.… [more]

Where to eat fancy, fully-vaxinated, non-spicy, vegetarian near Seattle?
I can't see Nirmal's vacc requirement on their site, but they have vegetarian options (https://www.nirmalseattle.com/dinner-menu/)

Meesha also has a ton of vegetarian options, but they are following King County guidance and accepting negative test results for people who can't be vaccinated. You could call them and ask how many people have used that?

Help me donate blood!
I donate blood a lot, and it was only recently that someone told me that it's important to buffer hydration as much as three days ahead of the donation. I can't tell you how much water you should be drinking, but a few techs suggested +25%-50% of normal for a few days ahead of the donation.

That might not be a factor for the issues you describe, but it's what's been suggested to me.

How do you apply to a company, instead of a specific job?
Seconding knownfossils. This is exactly how I got my current job. I was volunteering, and when I had a list of companies I was interested in, I asked a bunch of people at the nonprofit (well, and other people I knew as well) if they knew anyone at any of the companies I was interested in. I hadn't even looked at open positions. I just looked for introductions to get more information about the organization, what their job was, etc. It happened that someone knew the CTO of my current employer.… [more]

I'll say a little about my experience with it, and what I thought was important that I tried to keep in mind. How do I rehome these freezer bricks?
Thanks for all the ideas! I tried a few food banks and the local mutual aid group, and they weren't interested. I'm waiting to hear from some organizations working with people who are unhoused, one already rejected the offer.

But I'm friends with the owner of a small chocolate store, and she uses them for shipping and for people who buy in the summer, and they said they'd take all of the ones that I didn't find a place for. I didn't think about that until processing all these answers.

What do you always recommend to people?
Volunteering in one form or another. I know that being able to volunteer is a privilege, so not everyone has the capacity or ability to do it. But being of service to something outside yourself, whether it's other people, animal, the environment, etc, is good on so many levels.

Covid in the house
I don't know about dealing with COVID, but I'd suggest that being careful for a year wasn't for nothing. You and your partner were safe and healthy when a lot of other people weren't, and apart from yourselves, you very likely prevented other people from getting sick from you.

Songs about Anxiety
BC/BC is generally pop/punk, this one is a little mellower:

I'm Alright by Bad Cop/Bad Cop

I'm not sure anymore just which of these voices
Are mine
Inside my head
But I'm fighting for my life in my dreams
When I sleep every night
But I'm pretty sure I'm alright

If I'm angry all the time
Is that fine?
If I'm going crazy
Is that your problem or mine?
Well I'm pretty sure I'm alright

Maintaining a Temporarily Unplugged Fridge
Guidelines for food safety during power outages all seem to say 4 hours with the door closed.

CDC

FDA

The main thing is that the temperature can't be above 40f for 4 hours. You could put ice packs in the freezer, freeze them, then move them to the fridge before you unplug it. That would extend the time.

Weighing risk to volunteer at food bank
Depending on the food bank and how it's set up, she might be able to do more warehouse/restocking/administrative work than actual interface with other people. If those positions are available, the people running the bank might be glad to give her the choice of positions to volunteer for. That won't eliminate all risk, but it would mitigate it. Since you already did a shift there, you'll have a better idea of what's available.
